A Reading City: Explore Shenzhen’s Beautiful Library and Bookshops

I really enjoyed putting this piece together. It took me longer than usual because I wanted to add as many photos of bookshops as I could, which meant travelling to several locations.

Shenzhen is on a mission to become known as a reading and piano city with internationally renowned Chinese pianist Lang Lang settling here.  His lifestory, by the way, is nothing short of inspiring.  Check it out when you get a chance.

Throughout the summer in a variety of venues, both indoors and out, there are piano shows and competitions showcasing young musicians, enabling them to aspire and achieve.

I’ve long realised that much as I enjoy the convenience of online shopping it’s good to see the tradition of bookshops thriving as it’s hard to top the feel and smell of a brand new book, combined with the joy of sampling a few pages and reading the blurb on the cover before making the decision to go ahead and buy.

Unlike in the west, bookshops in China are well supported and definitely here to stay.
